Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital

In 2001 floor designs were just catching on in materials other than VCT. Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital pushed the envelope on what was possible.

  • 100′s of floor designs
  • Seven floors, each with it’s own unique design
  • 11 different flooring manufacturers
  • 75 different SKU’s

The question was… is the primary focus…

  • a company that has waterjet cutting capabilities or
  • a company that understand flooring and logisitics?

Waterjet Works provided both…and then some.

  • detailed approval drawings
  • material requirements per manufacturer, per item and per floor
  • samples
  • installation maps
  • site visits
  • a facility that had the floor space and storage space to handle the task.
  • knowledgeable people to coordinate with the installation team

Having a machine is probably 25% of what was needed to be successful on this job.

We had a 100% satisfied customer… and they are back for more in 2010!

Armstrong Linoleum and VCT

In 1999 our first customer used Armstrong World Industries because of their ability to deliver goods across the United States from multiple factories. With the Waterjet Works facility located in Dallas, Tx it gave our customer the ability to deliver goods from coast to coast in a matter of a few days. When Armstrong returned to the linoleum business we were right there to assist them in making a name for themselves with this natural product. In 2001 we were honored to create linoleum flooring for artist Juan Munoz. His art was displayed at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum of Contemporary Art and Sculpture Garden. The following year, 2002 found Waterjet Works at the Contemporary Art Museum of Houston and the Chicago Art Institute. In 2003 the linoleum art made its final stop at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

Linoleum is not the only material used for art. Many architects and interior designers have used VCT, LVT and Sheet vinyl to create beautiful floor designs for hospitals, schools, public buildings and retail establishments.

Take a look at the video it will surely give you asense of what Waterjet Works can do with Armtrong products.

Sallie Zetterower Elementary School

In many schools across the United States up to 30% of the building is corridors. Historically, very little learning has occured in those spaces. Superintendent of Schools in Bulloch County Georgia, Dr. Lewis Holloway, is putting these areas to good use. He has taken three of his schools and created Curriculum in the Corridors by turning this valuable space into a natural history museum.

Just like in a museum each corridor has a specific focus such as …

  • astronomy
  • archeology
  • geology
  • history
  • geography and
  • zoology

The floors, walls and window share in the learning experience. The students become docents teaching other students and the world map, map of the northern hemisphere and Georgia state map allows students to explore the world casually over lunch in the cafeteria.

Waterjet Works began the process in the design phase working with the superintendent, architects, interior designer, and continued to support the project my interfacing with the general contractor, flooring contractor and Armstrong World Industries.

Having the opportunity to increase the potential learning experience by 30% is something that is in the best interest of all schools. More importantly, it is fun to attend these school.

No Where But Texas

Scott and White Hospital is a “one of a kind” place….in so many ways.  I know you will agree.

Temple, TX

When Waterjet Works began this project back in 2004 they were invited to come to Austin to consult with the interior design team at Page Southerland Page Acrchitects.  They wre interested to learn more about Waterjet Works’ capabilities beyond the obvious water jet cutting. Waterjet works had recently completed seven floors at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN. Each floor was unique and filled with creativity. PSP wanted to learn more about how to insure that their designs would be handled in the same manner.

Waterjet Works’ ability to listen to their concerns in the design phase proved to be extremely beneficial to everyone as the project progressed.

When it came time to select a floor covering , Ron Pauley notes that he and his team investigated a number of different materials. “We looked at the cost, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each. We even installed trial floors in high traffic areas to see how they held up.”

Following the tests, vinyl composition tile (VCT) was chosen for all the patient’s rooms, clinical care corridors and a number of examination rooms.  Armstrong vinyl composition tile was the manufacturer of choice for numerous reasons: qaulity, availability, and largest variety of colors to coordinate with the interior finishes and floor insets.  Since Waterjet Works has worked closely with Armstrong and its distributors over the years they were able to include material estimates as well. “I cannot tell you how many times I have told my customers that not all flooring contractors are alike and they need to be aware of the difference. Yet, I forgot that lesson wheen it came to your servi ces. I now know, first hand, that not all waterjet companies are created equal. Your quality is far superior. Your cuts are cleaner and your understanding of the materials made your logos turn out twice as nice as the wire cutters.” – Bobby Diltz, Breegle Building Products, Inc.

Sometimes it just takes patience. I appreciate a customer who is honest and forthright and will tell it like it is.  Waterjet Works does it’s best to create friends as customers. A friend will tell you when you have screwed up…and when you did a good job. If they are are “only” a customer, you may never know whether you have a done a good job or a bad job. Bobby’s story is one for the books.
